I just went to the movies, and boy was I surprised? Oh no, I wasn’t surprised by the plot twists or the ending. I was surprised by the theater. As those familiar with me already no, I’m kind of cheap. But there’s a new Spiderman movie! Had you heard? And my wife is out of town with the kid, so I had a whole afternoon to kill by my lonesome. And since by this point I think I’ve seen as many movies basically by myself as I have with other people, I went by myself to the movies.
So, I’m expecting matinee price, but I’m not counting on it. But, I’m in Ohio, so I figure it should be a bit cheaper than in California, but not by much, right. As I’m buying my ticket, for a fairly reasonable $7.00 I happen to look up and read that there is a military discount, which I say out loud to myself as I read it. Now, my expectation would be that the discount would be good for bringing the evening price down to the matinee price, and that’s it. Nope, not in Ohio. Even the matinee price gets knocked down to $5.00 for active duty military. That’s only $2.00 more than the bargain theater across the street!
To be clear, I’m not writing to brag that I got a cheap movie ticket. Nor am I writing to brag about being in the military. I’m in the medical corps, so I’m not even a combatant technically. I’m writing because I appreciated this theater chain’s effort to show some support for the troops in a concrete way. The chain is Showcase Cinemas. The three or four of them in town here even gave active duty personnel free tickets for a few weeks back in April, but I missed out that due to work responsibilities. It’s just nice to see a company giving back. Hooray for the movies!
